It’s official: Colin Farrell’s portrayal of The Penguin from The Batman will be expanded into a dedicated TV series.
The promotional clip for The Penguin has landed, showcasing the rise of Oswald Cobblepot as a crime lord. Farrell’s portrayal in The Batman was just a chapter, and now he’ll be in the limelight of his own story. The series boasts a star-studded cast, including Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, and Michael Zegen.
As for now, the series does not have an official detailed plot. It’s simply regarded as “the upcoming episode in the @TheBatman universe, from the helm of Matt Reeves,” with Reeves being the director and co-writer of The Batman.
Oswald Cobblepot’s character, with Farrell’s remarkable transformation with prosthetics, sparse hair, and that distinctive Italian accent, coupled with the notorious Gotham City underworld, radiates a certain resemblance to The Sopranos. Interestingly, HBO’s journey from The Sopranos to The Penguin reflects the changing pace of entertainment.
The Penguin is set to debut this autumn on Max, though its exact release date is still under wraps. Adding to that, the continuation of The Batman franchise by Reeves is in the pipeline, even though its release has been pushed back by a year to the autumn of 2026. So for now, this series seems to fill in the gap.
