The universe of Spider-Man is expanding into the realm of live-action series, with Nicolas Cage set to reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir, this time in a new series for Amazon’s Prime Video. Cage originally lent his voice to the character in the animated hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018.

Titled Noir, the series will be directed by Harry Bradbeer and developed by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, alongside the producers of the Spider-Verse films: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, who will also serve as executive producers.

Speculation about a Spider-Man Noir TV adaptation appeared as early as February 2023. While the movie Into the Spider-Verse played Spider-Man Noir for laughs, nodding to the classic tough detectives of yesteryear, the character’s origin lies in Marvel Comics. Created by writers David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky, and artist Carmine Di Giandomenico, Spider-Man Noir was part of a series that recast familiar heroes in the mold of vintage crime cinema, with a more serious tone.

The series announcement aligns with Nicolas Cage’s recent statements about considering a shift from the silver screen to the streaming world.

“I’m contemplating a change to the dynamic world of streaming,” he mentioned in one of his latest interviews. “I need to find out what’s next for me, and that answer hasn’t come yet.”

It seems Cage’s search is over with the arrival of Noir, which will debut on MGM+, and will be available for streaming later on Prime Video.
