Eagerly anticipated news has arrived for followers of X-Men: Marvel Studios is now set to commence the creation of their inaugural live-action movie for the X-Men series.

Speculation had been mounting, suggesting Marvel was in search of writers for the X-Men movie as early as last year. It now seems they have honed in on a top choice. According to a report by Deadline, Michael Lesslie, known for his work on the adaptation of The Hunger Games novel The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, is poised to write the screenplay.

Unsurprisingly, the project will be produced under the guidance of Kevin Feige, Marvel’s President.

Despite Disney’s acquisition of Fox being five years in the past, Marvel has made deliberate moves in developing film projects from the newly gained properties. It took some time for Marvel to pick the star-studded line-up for its Fantastic Four reboot, which is now slated to hit cinemas in July 2025.

In the meantime, Marvel has been steadily incorporating hints of the existence of mutants within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recently, it was unveiled that Ms. Marvel is, in fact, a mutant (despite the original comic books suggesting otherwise, which have now been revised). Additionally, cameos from iconic characters played by Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast in The Marvels have been introduced.

Furthermore, Marvel’s latest release on Disney+, X-Men ’97, continues the storyline of the beloved 1990s animated series. This show has garnered some of the most positive feedback of any Marvel series streaming to date.

While no release date is set yet for the X-Men film, fans can look forward to Deadpool & Wolverine, the next addition to the MCU roster, premiering on July 26 in theaters.
