Launch of ‘Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora’ Pushed Back to 2023

Fans will have to wait longer for Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as its launch has been postponed to 2023. The game’s initial release was scheduled for this year, although a specific date had not been set.

Ubisoft made public their decision to delay the game:

“The goal is to bring players an innovative, immersive experience that maximizes the capabilities of the new generation of gaming technology. This illustrious global franchise presents a significant, multi-year opportunity for Ubisoft. Along with this, we have decided to shift the launch of a smaller, yet-to-be-announced premium title from 2022-23 to the 2023-24 timeframe.”

The corporation elaborated on the reasons for the postponement:

“The need for extra development time echoes the challenges productions are facing industry-wide. Rest assured, we are focused on establishing the most productive work environment for our team, aiming for flexibility and high productivity, to deliver top-notch gaming experiences.”

The game’s release was planned to coincide with the debut of the upcoming film, Avatar: The Way of Water, set to premiere on December 16th of this year. This postponement must have been a difficult choice, considering the buzz the film is likely to create, which in turn could have spurred significant game sales.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was first revealed by Ubisoft at their 2021 Ubisoft Forward event, leaving a strong impression with its potential for stunning visual environments, powered by Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine. However, in March, Massive Entertainment’s Managing Director David Polfeldt announced his departure from the studio. At that time, Polfeldt noted:

“My management philosophy and skills seem to be tailored toward a different type of team and size. The studio’s current scale may not be the best fit for my leadership style. I’ve accepted this and am completely comfortable with it.”
