Giant Lizard Takes Over TV Screens In ‘Monarch’ Show On Apple TV+

Apple TV+ boasts a robust lineup with several hits and even an Oscar-winning film. However, with no immediate return of Ted Lasso, the platform would greatly benefit from a new crowd-puller—a large-scale show featuring none other than Godzilla himself.

Welcome to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, thrusting the iconic, flame-exhaling Godzilla into our living rooms. The series spotlights a star-studded cast with Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, and Kiersey Clemons. Below, you can find the show’s debut trailer which strongly ties Monarch to the universe of the recent Godzilla and Kong film saga, showing that Monarch—the mysterious agency charged with safeguarding humanity from these behemoths—is involved in more than just technological surveillance. Indeed, this trailer promises riveting kaiju battles too.

Not only is the visual scope impressive, but there’s an equally compelling narrative groundwork, thanks to creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction, a comic book author renowned for works such as The Invincible Iron Man, Casanova, and Hawkeye—whose comic run heavily influenced the recent TV adaptation of Hawkeye.

Here’s what the series is all about:

In the aftermath of Godzilla’s cataclysmic showdown with the Titans which devastated San Francisco, and the stunning reality that monsters walk among us, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” follows two siblings as they step into their father’s legacy to explore their family ties with the enigmatic Monarch entity. The search drives them deep into the realm of creatures and sends them tumbling through a historical discovery linked to Army Officer Lee Shaw (portrayed by both Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and then half a century later as Monarch faces threats from Shaw’s knowledge. This epic narrative spans three generations, exposing long-hidden truths and showing how monumental events cast long shadows over our lives.

Apple TV+ launches Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on November 17, with the first two episodes dropping that day. New episodes will follow weekly on Fridays until January 12.
