During the festive season, gamers of NBA 2K24 stumbled upon a significant exploit. On the 26th of December, an anomaly was spotted in MyTEAM mode where a Paul George card was being sold at a bargain. Savvy gamers noticed they could buy this card at a low price and sell it for a substantial profit, amassing an enormous amount of coins.

Several players amassed fortunes in virtual currency before 2K corrected the blunder. Subsequently, 2K Sports rectified their error by reversing transactions, leading to players’ accounts displaying a void of coins, albeit with the obtained cards still in possession. Predictably, this led to a wave of discontent within the NBA 2K community.

The Washington Post brought initial attention to this situation, pinpointing 2K’s significant misstep and their discrete rollback and recovery of the coins without any form of communication or explanation. Compounded by the fact that the mishap originated from 2K Sports’ oversight, the fanbase consequently felt penalized for capitalizing on the developers’ error.

The NBA 2K community expressed their dissatisfaction vividly on their subreddit, where you could find u/BlueGreenReddit1 stating, “So glad I didn’t buy the game again this year. 23 already has ‘unsellable’ cards which was a load of crap.”

Joining the fray, u/doctorlongghost commented, “Basketball cards are a joke. The digital ones are even worse.” Meanwhile, u/icerahphyle bluntly imparted, “Patiently waiting for the day where a baller can hoop again on his PlayStation without the basketball becoming a secondary quest in a manipulative casino-simulator.”

NBA 2K enthusiast and YouTuber Cody Richinson gave his take to the Post, “What customer who has invested hundreds would continue to invest when just waiting for the next glitch might be more beneficial? I will assume it’s holiday season slack, but I am hoping for a fair outcome.”

The NBA 2K community is exasperated by repetitive development flaws and unresolved problems, not to mention the sting of spending on a game susceptible to such disruption. Some believe this exploit and the response to it highlight the inadequacy in development, and others see it as a reason to halt any further financial support to 2K. Yet, there’s a unanimous sentiment: disappointment with 2K Sports.
