Amazon Is No Longer Interested In ‘Silk’ TV Adaptation

The anticipated television adaptation of Marvel’s Silk has been shelved and will no longer be pursued by Amazon.

Initially revealed in 2022 under the title Silk: Spider Society, the project was part of a Sony-Amazon collaboration to create TV series set within the universe of Spider-Man. Angela Kang from The Walking Dead was supposed to helm the production, supported by Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. The series was expected to premiere on MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video.

As reported by Variety, the decision to cancel the project has been made, though an insider suggests Sony may seek alternative platforms for the series.

Furthermore, The Ankler previously reported that Amazon had considered reshaping the show for a demographic more inclined towards action series like The Boys, Reacher, and Jack Ryan—a direction that would likely appeal more to a male audience.

In the world of Marvel Comics, the character Silk—also known as Cindy Moon—gains her powers from the same radioactive spider that bit Peter Parker. After escaping a long period of captivity, she embraces the mantle of Silk. Her character has become significant in Spider-Man narratives, notably contributing to Marvel’s original Spider-Verse arcs that influenced recent animated features. Portrayed by Tiffany Espensen, Cindy Moon has made brief cinematic appearances in Spider-Man Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War.

This update on the Silk: Spider Society series surfaces shortly after the announcement of another Spider-Man universe expansion — a live-action series focusing on Spider-Man Noir, to be portrayed by Nicolas Cage, greenlit by Amazon.

Film professionals often excite audiences when they transition to television, whether it’s for a permanent career shift or a temporary exploration of a new medium.
